On operative inspection, the lesion was between the anterior mitral leaflet and primary chordae (Figure 2). A mitral valve repair (28 mm ring annuloplasty, triangular resection of the anterior leaflet and new chordae formation) with complete excision of the mass was undertaken. The mass had a sea-anemone appearance with frond-like projections after immersion in saline solution (Figure 3). The histopathologic examination confirmed a papillary fibroelastoma. The patient’s postoperative course was uneventful. Six months after the operation, the patient’s clinical findings were

Papillary fibroelastoma of a mitral valve chordae, presenting with atypical chest pain and palpitation: A case report and the literature
Background: Primary intra cardiac tumors are rare. In this article, we present papillary fibroelastoma of mitral valve chordae. Case Presentation: A 35-year old man presented with atypical chest pain and palpitation. Physical examination and electrocardiogram were normal. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) revealed a mass of 1015 mm attached to chordae of anteromedial papillary muscle of ...
متن کاملPapillary fibroelastoma of the heart: report of two cases and review of the literature.
Papillary fibroelastoma is the most common primary cardiac valvular tumor. Historically, papillary fibroelastoma was an incidental autopsy finding, deemed to have no clinical significance. More recently, reports of symptomatic cases of papillary fibroelastoma with complications such as myocardial infarction and stroke have led papillary fibroelastoma to be considered a potentially dangerous les...
متن کاملPapillary Fibroelastoma of the Papillary Muscle of the Tricuspid Valve: Reconstruction of the Papillary Muscle*
Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma is the third most frequent primary cardiac tumor, after myxoma and fibroma. A papillary fibroelastoma that arises from the papillary muscle is rare. We removed a papillary fibroelastoma located at the anterior papillary muscle of the tricuspid valve. The papillary muscle needed reconstruction. We used the loop technique to adjust the length of the papillary muscl...
متن کاملUnusual Location of a Cardiac Papillary Fibroelastoma
Cardiac papillary fibroelastoma is a rare benign cardiac tumor that represents less than 10% of all cardiac tumors. Most papillary fibroelastomas are relatively small. Symptoms, if present, are due to flow obstruction or peripheral embolization. The most common sites of origin are aortic and mitral valve surfaces. We present successful surgical resection of a papillary fibroelastoma through the...
متن کاملBrief Report A papillary fibroelastoma of the tricuspid valve
Primary cardiac tumours are rare in children. Of these, papillary fibroelastomas are unusual but benign, usually being found in adults. There are only sporadic cases reported in children. We diagnosed such a papillary fibroelastoma involving the tricuspid valve in an asymptomatic child during a routine cardiac investigation.
متن کاملPapillary Fibroelastoma of the Right Ventricular Free Wall
Papillary fibroelastoma is a rare benign cardiac tumor that usually arises from the valvular endocardium and its development in the cardiac chambers is extremely rare. A 52-year-old woman complained of palpitations and echocardiography revealed a cardiac tumor. Resection was performed via the right ventricle and main pulmonary artery under cardiopulmonary bypass. Histological examination of the...
